This book would work well with the 3rd grade tall tales unit. This is a good introduction to who Paul Bunyan is and why he is considered a hero. Students will be enlightened by the exaggeration and elaboration of this story. Teacher could also explain the different version of this story and how they compare or contrast. Also, it would be great to discuss the relationship between Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue ox.
